Frequently Asked Questions
What is your hourly rate?
For tutoring, I charge £40 per hour, to be paid in advance of the session.
School CPD programmes are negotiable depending on the nature of the enquiry.
What is your cancellation policy?
I will accept cancellations and issue refunds up to 2 hours in advance of a reserved session, with the exception of extraordinary circumstances.
What technology do you use for online lessons?
I work primarily with Lesson Space, an intuitive, accesible lesson platform, which is designed specifically for online teaching. Students can access lessons directly through email links. Zoom is equally an option. Please note that I offer online but not in-person sessions for the moment. While I recieve a considerable number of queries for in-person tuition, I choose to work online so that I can provide the maximum time and focus for my students' education. This choice also allows to me to charge a lower rate per session for high quality teaching, as I am not required to factor in travel costs or the time taken to cross Brighton in rush hour. In the current environmental context, I also feel it is important that work which can be carried out online is carried out online and, in my experience, most modern teenagers thrive via online learning, if it is on a one-to-one basis.
Do you set homework?
Extra homework assignments can be provided after each online session for those who would like to push themselves further. These are individual to each student and reviewed with extensive feedback, enabling students to continually engage with their own progress and ensuring that the content and pace of the course remain at the optimal level. They are by no means compulsory however and many students find that the work covered within tutoring sessions is enough for them to make considerable progress. It is completely up to the individual student and parents. I'm always more than happy to mark whatever extra work students may produce where they would like feedback.
What is the typical tutoring pattern?
There is considerable flexibility in terms of bookings: most students opt for weekly or fortnightly sessions, while others choose short revision courses, often with a focus on particular subject areas, for the holidays, exam periods, or whenever they might feel the need for some extra support. I am open to most systems so please never hesitate to ask, whatever flexibility you might require in that regard.
Are you DBS checked?
Yes, I am fully DBS checked with certificate available upon request.
